Well Hello Fable! — Big Machine

Fable landed on my max plan for good and I'm thrilled, because I've been having a blast with it and making real progress. It's a wonderful cofounder for the thinking and reasoning work, less prone to wandering off, though I still hand the actual coding to Sonnet 5. I also tease the Obsidian vault that's slowly morphing into Virtual Rob as a Service.

I got a notice today that Fable is now part of my max plan without an expiration! That's pretty slick because I have been having a ton of fun (and making outstanding progress) using Fable over the last few weeks.

Is it really that good? Does it write better code? Yes, yes it’s really that good but if and only if you use good process and have solid instructions. It’s less prone to wandering off and hallucinating, though I’m sure it does that too, but overall I’ve had a wonderful time using it.

I’m so happy to see that it’s here to stay, and as for the usage cap, my 200x plan seems to handle heavy use pretty well. That said: I don’t throw coding tasks at it. For that, Sonnet 5 works really well.

It’s a Great Cofounder

I’m working up a fun video to show off my New and Improved ™️ Obsidian Bullet Journal which has morphed from Bullet Journal to a full-blown Virtual Rob as a Service. All of my posts, previous daily notes, personal notes, YouTube clips, every book I’ve read, and my entire Thomas Frank Notion db (I really like his Ultimate Brain) now lives in a carefully managed Obsidian Vault. I attached Cowork to that vault, together with my Champion plugin, and it’s been kind of freaky.

I have two scheduled tasks that go off every morning to prepare the day’s Daily Note. Rollups of posts and activity here, newsletter stats, interesting news and articles, and critical tasks - all ready for me to start the day. The whole idea of the “morning brief” hasn’t really landed very well with me - but now that my work history (for the most part) is in my Vault, Fable is able to create some very targeted information.

More on that later - for now - if you’re on the fence RE a 200x plan, now’s probably the time. Fable is outstanding for tasks that require thinking and reasoning, but for code (which should be tightly bound by skills and instructions), it’s overkill.
