Thinking About Deployment Upfront
One of the things I've learned over the years is to know where your application is going to live during production. How do you make that choice?
You have a database, you have some code. You want to share this with the world... but how? Deploying to production typically boils down to these choices:
- You go with what you know. If you're an AWS or Azure person, the choice is easy. Maybe you like Digital Ocean or Vercel? Again: easy.
- You go with what someone else knows. A person on your team might be an AWS pro, or love Kubernetes. They volunteer, and the choice is made.
- You go with whatever is cheapest. Almost always the wrong choice.
